To the moon and back
Hi. Welcome to my blog. Who am I? And what can you expect?
I am a professional photographer based on the beautiful North-West Coast of Tasmania. After 34 years shooting for the local newspaper, I have stepped out and am now master of my own destiny.
This blog is going to be a mix of what I'm up to now, a look back at some of my past favourites, maybe some equipment and technical stuff and whatever else you would like to see...but primarily with a photographic theme.
My love affair with photography started when I was in Grade 10. I worked the holidays to fund the purchase of my first "real" camera, a Fujica ST605n (pictured above) and never looked back. Most of my time in Year 11 (to the detriment of my results in Aust. History and Social Psych.) was spent in the "dungeon" of Hellyer College refining my black and white darkroom skills. Fortunately, these skills landed me my first job processing and printing films in Tasmania's first 24-hour lab.
My ambition had been to work at the local newspaper, so when I was offered a role as darkroom assistant, I jumped at it...hoping it would give me the front-running should a position open on the photographic team. It took a lot longer than I had anticipated, but it did happen.
I saw a multitude of changes during my 34 years...from hand printing and processing black and white, to shooting colour film, through to the digital technology of today. And that's not to mention the massive changes in cameras and lenses.
I have had some amazing experiences and opportunities and I feel privileged to have met and photographed some truly inspirational people (some of which I plan to share with you).
The journey continues...I love photography.
