A job to do
Hi folks.
When you are commissioned for an editorial shoot your job is usually to illustrate a story. You are given a brief (the basics of the story) and the expectation is that you will follow it. There is no point taking a really beautiful picture if it has nothing to do with the story.
The ideal is that you do both…illustrate the story AND take a great pic.
I’m not saying this a great pic, but considering the subject matter, it’s not totally boring. The story was about the use of elevated growing platforms and the benefits they have for the pickers’ backs…so the pic had to show that.
Using a long lens and small aperture creates a narrow depth-of-field, which increases the effect of perspective and isolates the subject from the background. Using leading lines draws your eye toward the picker.
